2023 Safety Award Round Up

As we look back on 2023, Deep South is pleased to highlight the following recognitions awarded to our team:

Deep South recently secured the top position in the Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance's (GBRIA) 2023 Contractor Safety Excellence Awards for Crane & Rigging. The GBRIA's awards program, initiated in 1996, is designed to acknowledge outstanding safety performance by contractors in industrial settings. This honor is based on nominations from GBRIA member sites, recognizing companies with a solid commitment to safety excellence in their operations.

Deep South has been awarded the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association's (SC&RA) Crane & Rigging Group Safety Award for the sixth consecutive year. This award is presented to SC&RA member companies with a Workers' Compensation Modification Rate of 1.0 or less, a Property Damage Frequency Rate of 1.0 or less, and an incident rate of 1.6 or less. These standards are notably lower than the industry average, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, reflecting our continuous commitment to maintaining superior safety standards. SC&RA is a globally recognized organization with over 1,400 members from 46 nations.

Deep South has been honored with the LWCC Safest 70 award for the seventh consecutive year. This prestigious recognition is part of a program that celebrates excellence, outstanding performance, and a steadfast commitment to workplace safety among the top 70 of over 16,000 entities insured by LWCC. It is a testament to the effectiveness of our safety efforts in preventing injuries and upholding a consistent workplace safety history, as well as our leadership in cultivating a safe workplace and a strong safety culture.

In 2023, Deep South assumed a mentor role within the Safety Excellence Awards, facilitated by The Houston Business Roundtable and The Health and Safety Council. After receiving the Best in Class award the previous year, Deep South transitioned into a mentor role the following year, adhering to the award's rule that prevents winners from competing in consecutive years. Deep South shared their expertise with this year's finalists as mentors, helping improve safety and quality in the industry. This mentorship highlights the commitment to improving industry standards and recognizes the role as a significant honor, showing a dedication to boosting overall excellence in the industry.

Additionally, Deep South has been named a recipient of the Texas Mutual 2023 Platinum Safety Partner Award. This achievement places Deep South among 200 businesses selected from Texas Mutual's 72,000 policyholders in Texas. The Work Safe, Texas Award Program recognizes policyholders whose dedication to employee safety distinguishes them from other policyholders, underscoring our ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest safety standards in our operations.

Multi-Module Mission

The heavy haul transport of oil and gas refinery components is always a challenge. Transporting 17 modules, all in the span of two weeks, raised the bar. The modules varied greatly in size and weight. Two of the modules exceeded 260,000 lbs., while 11 were more than 16’ high, three were more than 19’ high, and 13 had widths greater than 18’. Initially, the customer had trouble finding a company to move the modules to their site in Texas.
