Big Lift & Logistics

From coordinating barge and road transportation to a heavy lift in a tight space, this project for a heavy industry customer provided the Deep South team an opportunity to show off its capabilities. The team received a 948,000-pound industrial converter and a 244,000-pound cartridge at the Port of New Orleans a couple of months apart. The 94’-long x 11’-diameter converter was loaded directly onto an 18-axle-line double-wide Scheuerle SPMT for placement onto a barge for a ride up the river.

To roll off the converter, Deep South obtained access to a third-party levee crossing and constructed a temporary ramp over the levee, which allowed Deep South to roll off the barge, travel over the levee, and proceed over the road approximately two miles to the customer’s facility. Once at the site, crews used the 1,500-ton VersaCrane™ TC-24000 and the 330-ton Demag CC-1800 to lift the equipment over an adjacent running unit.

The 95’-long x 10’-8”-wide cartridge was able to be received on an 18-axle-line Goldhofer THP/SL transport trailer at the Port of New Orleans dock. Over the course of seven hours, the cartridge load was transported over the road to the customer site, including through many New Orleans city streets.
