Safety Source: OSHA's Safe + Sound Week

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration's Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event to recognize the successes of businesses that have adopted programs to improve workplace safety and health. This year's Safe + Sound Week will be held August 12-18, 2024, and focus on Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs). Deep South is pleased to participate in this annual event again.

A recent Deep South safety huddle made several points that echo the core elements of the 2024 Safe + Sound Program. These safety huddles are led by company leadership, allowing leadership to show their commitment to safety excellence, strengthen safety messaging, and reinforce a positive company culture. Throughout Deep South, we know that worker participation is absolutely critical to every safe and successful job. Each individual's commitment to finding and fixing hazards is a cornerstone of workplace safety.

Four Safety Huddle Action Items from 2024:

Stay Focused: Concentrate on the task at hand. If you are walking, focus on walking and be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions such as cell phones.

Use the 15-sec Pause: Take a 15-second pause before starting any activity to mentally prepare and consider potential risks.

Verify Equipment Certification: Take the time to check your certification and qualification level on the equipment you are about to operate. Let others know if you are not qualified to do the task assigned to you – and do not operate any equipment you are not qualified for!

Embrace Our Values: We take pride in the professionalism, teamwork, and safety culture that define Deep South. These core values drive our success and distinguish us as industry leaders. Let's embrace the challenges ahead with these principles guiding us.
