Assembling the 1,500T VersaCrane™ TC-24000 off site and moving it via SPMT saved this client 15 days of downtime and allowed the refinery unit to run at full capacity until unit shutdown. During the scheduled outage, Deep South was tasked to replace two coke drums, each weighed 452,800 lbs and were 19’-2” outside diameter and 96’-0” long and were comparable in size and weight to the old drums.

Deep South was contracted to provide turnkey transportation and field erection services as part of a grassroots fertilizer project at a plant in Western Iowa. Over this 15-month period more than 150 pieces of plant equipment were successfully transported and erected.

The 90 foot-long, 24 foot-wide apparatus was secured to the platform of a self-propelled modular trailer and operated by Deep South Industrial Services to make the roughly five-hour trip from the Phoenix Terminal in Hartford to the refinery in Roxana.
Refinery Turnaround Requires All Hands On Deck

Refinery units undergoing a turnaround are taken apart – and components are inspected, repaired or replaced – before being put back together. Turnaround activity can either be confined to individual units or parts of a refinery at a time, or in the case of the recent Texas City turnaround, involve the entire plant.
