Deep South Crane & Rigging has added a 1,320 ton Terex Demag AC-1000, one of the largest hydraulic truck cranes in the U.S., to its impressive fleet of cranes. The high-capacity machine represents the cutting edge of hydraulic crane technology and is now available to support power and energy projects.

The crane features 330 feet of main telescoping boom with a possible 535.8 feet of boom luffing jib combination and provides an additional solution in areas where space is limited and a conventional crane would require assembly over existing parts of the refinery. The crane also offers a variety of configurations and has a load moment rating of 3,000 ton-meters. This extremely strong and versatile machine can be used in multiple industry sectors including refining and chemical plants as well as windmills.

"The Terex AC-1000 was built to meet industry demand for high-capacity cranes able to work in a limited area,” stated Jeremy Landry, Project Manager at Deep South Crane & Rigging. "Its ability to handle significant weight at an extreme tip height will allow versatility in planning jobs. We are proud to add this equipment to our fleet as a state-of-the-art solution to meet our customers’ needs.”

Precarious Conditions on the Dock

Rail-traveling ship loaders are a familiar sight on the Gulf Coast (and around the world)—and they are essential to the efficient loading of bulk materials. Disruption to the operation of these massive machines directly affects productivity and the bottom line, as represented by one company's experience when wind from a severe storm knocked the machine off its rails, leaving it dangerously close to the edge of the dock.

Reconfigured for a Higher Load

During a planned outage, a petrochemical facility in Texas needed to replace a large tower head—measuring 54' L x 30' W x 30' H and weighing 280,000 pounds. Deep South Crane & Rigging selected a strategic setup location for its 2,500-ton VersaCrane TC-36000 to accommodate both the head lift and additional turnaround work. The lift was initially planned at 350,000 pounds, accounting for tray installation.
