Baton Rouge, La., Tuesday, June 03, 2014 – As North American market conditions continue to improve, Deep South Crane & Rigging sees this as the right time to add two Terex lattice boom crawler crane models to its impressive fleet of more than 200 pieces of lifting equipment. The new crane acquisitions include the versatile 440-ton class Terex CC 2400-1 and the 1,760-ton Terex CC 8800-1.

"Deep South has multiple CC 2400-1 models in its fleet due to this model’s durability, flexibility and reliability,” says Jim Strobush, regional sales manager for Terex Cranes, "and the company sees some new market opportunities on the horizon that will require the high lift capacities of the CC 8800-1 crane.”

A 1,760-ton (1,600-tonne) capacity class crane, the CC 8800-1 delivers the highest lifting capacities in Deep South’s expansive crawler crane fleet. While most other crawler crane designs in the over 1,100-ton (1,000-tonne) capacity class are one-off, specially produced models, the CC 8800-1 crawler is a series production crane. Setting the super heavy lift class industry standard, it offers easy set-up and transport for its size. The crane’s design allows for components to be quickly disassembled into weights of less than 49 tons (45 tonnes) for easier, faster and cheaper transport. Since it is a standard production model, crane assembly is much easier and faster once on site.

"Deep South believes the CC 8800-1 will be a valuable addition to its growing fleet of high-capacity crawler cranes, which includes 10 crawler cranes over 600 tons," said Jeremy Landry, project manager for Deep South. "The CC 8800’s time-proven design and ease of transportation, together with Deep South's experienced team, will improve our ability to provide our customers with efficient lifting solutions."

Assisting the CC 8800-1 crane with lifting projects at petrochemical sites and on infrastructure projects, Deep South’s new CC 2400-1 crawler crane is an all-around workhorse, offering high lift capacities in the 440-ton class. Its compact design offers transport ease, while a small footprint helps improve maneuverability at tight project sites. The crane’s variable superlift system radius boosts lift capacities while minimizing space requirements and counterweight transport, while its jib configurations offer a wide range of lift options to increase versatility.

A High Pressure Exchange

Assembling the 1,500T VersaCrane™ TC-24000 off site and moving it via SPMT saved this client 15 days of downtime and allowed the refinery unit to run at full capacity until unit shutdown. During the scheduled outage, Deep South was tasked to replace two coke drums, each weighed 452,800 lbs and were 19’-2” outside diameter and 96’-0” long and were comparable in size and weight to the old drums.
