15 Module Lift and Transport
Posted: 01/08/2021
Deep South was contracted by a Gulf Coast refinery to transport fifteen modules from a fabrication shop in Port Allen, LA to the site in Norco, LA. Transport planning required an in-depth route survey and extensive coordination with state and local authorities and numerous third-party utilities. These modules (up to 20’-3” transport height) were delivered to the facility on Goldhofer THP/SL transporters and set using a 660-ton Terex CC2800-1 crawler crane.

During a planned outage, a petrochemical facility in Texas needed to replace a large tower head—measuring 54' L x 30' W x 30' H and weighing 280,000 pounds. Deep South Crane & Rigging selected a strategic setup location for its 2,500-ton VersaCrane TC-36000 to accommodate both the head lift and additional turnaround work. The lift was initially planned at 350,000 pounds, accounting for tray installation.

Assembling the 1,500T VersaCrane™ TC-24000 off site and moving it via SPMT saved this client 15 days of downtime and allowed the refinery unit to run at full capacity until unit shutdown. During the scheduled outage, Deep South was tasked to replace two coke drums, each weighed 452,800 lbs and were 19’-2” outside diameter and 96’-0” long and were comparable in size and weight to the old drums.
